United Launch Alliance’s (ULA) Atlas V rocket is set to light up the skies over Southern California on Thursday evening by launching a classified satellite for the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO).

The launch window for the rocket and its NROL-35 satellite opens on Dec. 11 at 7:17 p.m. PST.

“Our team and mission partners have put a lot of hard work into preparing for this important mission for our nation,” said Col. Keith Balts, U.S. Air Force 30th Space Wing commander. “We are looking forward to a safe and successful launch to close out an amazing year.”

United Launch Alliance will mark its 14th launch and final launch of the year.

“A launch like this takes teamwork and dedication,” said Lt. Col. James Bodnar, commander of the 4th Space Launch Squadron. “Our mission assurance technicians and engineers have worked hand-in-hand with United Launch Alliance going over critical procedures and tasks to ensure this launch is a safe and successful one.”
