The U.K.-built Beagle 2 Mars lander went missing in December 2003 when it failed to radio home after a Christmas Day landing attempt. Images from NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter now show that Beagle 2 landed on Mars, but did not unfold its petal-like solar arrays properly, leaving it silent on the Red Planet for eternity. Former Beagle 2 mission scientist Mark Sims of the University of Leicester explains.
